How Cozy Girls Getaways Came to Life: From An Idea Over Text to Our First Retreat
•
It started with a simple question:
What if we created the kind of weekend we are always looking for?
Not a networking event.
Not a bootcamp or a self-improvement intensive.
Not something we’d come back from more tired than when we left.
We wanted slow mornings, real conversation, books, comfort food, deep rest, and the kind of laughter that only happens when women feel completely at ease.
That was the spark for Cozy Girls Getaways: a retreat experience that feels like slipping into your favorite sweater.
In the beginning it was just the two of us – me (Maria) and Courtney – brainstorming ideas over coffee and zoom from the comfort of our home offices, our favorite reads filling the bookcases behind us. We weren’t sure what it would look like, only that it had to feel different from anything we’d attended before. It had to feel real.
We asked ourselves:
- What would happen if we gathered women not to fix them, but to let them be?
- What if we built the kind of weekend where introverts feel energized and extroverts feel grounded?
- What if it was all about slowing down, not leveling up?
From there, the vision grew quickly. But getting it off the ground? That took guts.
We scoured the internet for locations. Created a brand. Built a website. Invested our own time, money and trust. We wrote copy late at night and brainstormed book lists during lunch breaks. We felt the fear of launching something new…and we did it anyway.
And then…women started saying yes.
They saw themselves in the vision. They told us, “I didn’t even know I needed this.” They started booking rooms, sharing with friends, and telling us they couldn’t wait to join the reading retreat.
It’s been humbling. Beautiful. A little terrifying. And completely worth it.
Now, with our first readers retreat in Galena coming this September, we’re in awe of what happens when two women follow a quiet little idea and trust it all the way through.
This isn’t just a business. It’s a movement. A soft rebellion against burnout, hustle culture, and the idea that women have to earn rest.
We’re so grateful you’re here for it.
And we can’t wait to retreat with you.
